The Youth Group is an inter-tribal organization formed in 1995 to "Provide opportunities for Indian youth to learn thier traditions and cultures, to mature spirtually, physically, and socially; to develop leadership skills, to interact with other native youth, and to deal collectively with the problems facing American Indian youth today."
Membership is open to grade school thru college age youth. The youth group is governed by a leadership council elected from the membership with oversight by a three member adult advisory council; and is sponsored by the American Indian Council, Inc. of Lebanon, Indiana a Non-profit organization formed in 1984.
The Youth Group meets at the same time the American Indian Council Inc. meets.
Durning our monthly meetings we learn crafts such as beading, finger weaving, working with leather, and making dream catchers.
We also learn about our cultural traditions, tribal stories and dances.
We have fun raising money by conducting fundraisers at Fazoli's, we have car washes, demonstative dances, sell pop, water and items donated at Pow Wow's, and have raffles. We do these fundraisers to earn money to go to Pow Wow's and attend National Unity Conference.
We participate in Pow Wow's all over the Indiana area, and in other States. At these Pow Wow's we work, dance, and exhibit pride in our Native Culture.
At National Unity (United National Indian Tribal Youth) Conference we learn about leadership and other cultures. We are learning that there are other Native Youth out there who take pride in their culture.
